Buckeye Volleyball Club
Amber Bolinger 16 Regional Elite, Buckaneer Coach
Head Coach for the 16 Regional Elite team, Amber is entering her
8th year as an IMPACT certified club coach. For the 2011 year, she
coached the 15 Regional Elite team to a 10th place overall finish out
of 175 teams in the region. She also Coached 18 Red Elite to a 5th
place finish out of 60 teams in the regional. In 2008 she finished 7th
in the region out of 155 teams. This will be her 8th year coaching
for Kaepa Buckeye Volleyball Club. In 2007, she coached the 16's
National team finishing 36th. In 2006, she coached at the 15's level
finishing 22nd in the OVR. In 2005, she coached at the 13's level
placing 2nd in the Kryptonite division. She coached one year for
Mid Eastern Volleyball Club (MEVC). Her last assignment was the
Head Coach at Bexley High School. In 2007, she coached the JV
Volleyball team at Gahanna Lincoln High School. Amber coached
the Reynoldsburg High School JV team in 2005 and the seventh
grade team at Reynoldsburg Junior High School in 2004. She is
actively participating in indoor and sand volleyball leagues around
Columbus, as well as playing in Women's OVR competition on the
weekends. Amber was a four year letter winner at Muskingum
College from 2000-2004, winning an OAC Championship and a bid to
play in the NCAA tournament. While at Muskingum, she set the
Single Season Block record for 178 blocks. All four years she was in
college, she ran high school volleyball camps with her college
coach. She brings a lot of coaching experience, as well as playing
experience to the Kaepa Buckeye Volleyball Club.
Sandra Borer 17 American
Coach Sandra is entering her second season with the Buckeye
coaching staff this year. A graduate of Clay High School in Oregon,
Ohio, she attended Eastern Michigan University and Owens State
Community College where she won honors as OCCAC Player of the
Year, MVP, and was an NJCAA All-American as a middle hitter. While
in college, she coached for the Toledo Volleyball Club for five
seasons.
Currently, Coach Borer is the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach
and the Head Mens' Club Volleyball Coach at Urbana University.
She has a strong understanding of the middle attack and a passion
for defense. She assists with scouting and recruiting for the Blue
Knights.
We feel privileged to welcome Sandra and her two children, Hanna
and Brenden to the Buckeye family.
Grace Burrell 14 Regional
Coach Gracie is new to Buckeye this year. She attended Fairbanks
High School where she played on the Varsity team for three years.
She made 2nd Team and Honorable Mention All District in 2008. In
2009 she made 1st Team All District and Co-player of the Year in
2009 for NWCC. She played club volleyball for six years. Two of
those years we were very happy to have her playing at Buckeye.
Gracie currently attends Columbus State Community College where
she plays on their Division II Volleyball team.
Nikki Daugherty 15 Regional Elite
Coach Nikki is back at Buckeye to begin her third year. She was an
13’s coach in 2010. She has played volleyball since her freshman
year at Olentangy Liberty High School, where she was on the Varsity
team for two years. In her senior year, her team tied for the OCC
championships and made it to the disrict finals. During high school
she played for Kaepa Buckeye VBC for three years. She is currently
playing for The Ohio State University Marion Scarlet Wave volleyball
team. The team will go to Nationals this year, ranked 7th.
Nikki was awarded MVP and 1st Team All Conference of OCAC. She
also received an academic athlete award. She’s very excited to be
coming back.
Kevin Douce 17 Regional, 17 Winter
Coach Kevin is entering his second year with Buckeye Volleyball
Club. As a player, he was a four year letter winner at Dublin Scioto
High School where he captained the team for three years. His team
competed in the state quarterfinals in his Senior year and he
received 2nd Team All-State honors. He also played club ball with
CAVE Volleyball Club, where his team finished 3rd at Nationals in the
17 Club Division. He went on to play a year of Diviision II Club
volleyball at Ohio Northern University. In his freshman year, he
helped his team reach the National championship game in that
division and received 2nd Team All-American honors. Since then,
Kevin has been coaching both boys and girls of all ages. He has
served as a volunteer for the boys teams at both Dublin Scioto and
Dublin Jerome. He was the girls Freshman coach at Dublin Scioto in
2009, leading them to a 17-3 record. He has also coached club
teams and summer camps for Matchpoint Volleyball Club. Kevin is
looking forward to sharing his knowledge and experience this
season.
Jourdan Ellis 13 Regional Elite, 12 regional, 13 Winter
Coach Jourdan is new to Buckeye Volleyball Club this year. She
attended Saint Mary’s Academy in Portland, Oregon where she
played on the Varsity team all four years. She made First Team All
League and was Honorable Mention for First Team All State in the
2005/2006 season. As well as high school ball, Jourdan began
playing club volleyball in the 8th grade with Portland Volleyball Club
and stayed with them for five years.
She went on to play college volleyball at New York University where
she was a right side hitter. Currently, Jourdan is the Head Middle
School Coach for Columbus Academy and is attending Ohio State
University to finish her degree.
Samantha Huff 17 Regional Elite, 13 Regional
Coach Samantha Huff is looking forward to her fifth year with Kaepa
Buckeye Volleyball Club after coaching her 15 & Under team last
year. She has over six years of playing experience including four
years as a starter for Dublin Scioto High School teams and five
years with Buckeye VBC. This included two years on Varsity as a
middle hitter. She is currently the freshman Girls Volleyball Coach at
Central Crossing High School after spending three years at Dublin
Scioto Coaching Freshman for two years and JV for one. Currenty
she is the JV and Freshman assistant coach at Olentangy Liberty HS.
Coach Sam is a firm believer in fundamentals and playing the game
with energy and drive.
Todd Huff 17 Regional, 17 Regional
Coach Todd Huff begins his 10th year and has coached for Kaepa
Buckeye Volleyball Club since 2001 for 14's, 15's, 16's, 17's and 18's
Regional teams. Coach Tood has been coaching volleyball since
1988 at the middle school level. He coached JV girls at
Reynoldsburg High School in 1999 and JV boys at Dublin Scioto High
School in 2000. He coached freshmen girls at Dublin Scioto in 2006,
finishing 19-5 and coach two years of JV girls at Dublin Scioto High
School in 2007 and 2008 where his team won the school's OCC
Division in 2007. Coach Todd also coached Varsity girls at Dublin
Scioto in 2009, and Jv girls at Central Crossing High School in 2010.
Currently Coach Todd is the JV Coach at Olentangy Liberty High
School.
He believes in team dynamics, teaching respect for other teams,
and teaching all players to believe in themselves and to keep the
game in perspective.
Jeniece Jackson 15 American
Coach Jeniece Jackson is entering her third season with Buckeye
and brings with her a great deal of experience. Jeniece has been
coaching volleyball for over 10 years and has coached high school
and club teams throughout her career. In her first two seasons at
Buckeye Jeniece lead the team to a top 20 finish in 2009 and placed
2nd in the Region in 2010. Jeniece believes in disciplined
fundamentals, team unity, setting short and long term goals, and
driven passionate players. She is a former setter for Columbus
State Community College and has been playing volleyball for more
than 20 years.
Kacie Kunke
Katie Madewell 18 Regional Elite
Coach Katie is from Dayton, Ohio and has played volleyball for eight
years.
While attending Fairmont High School she was a three year varsity
outside hitter.
Katie held the records at her school for the most aces in one
season, the most aces in one match and the most kills in one
match. In her Senior year, she was one ace away from breaking the
State record with 23 aces in one match against
Springfield North. She was named to the Greater Western Ohio
Conference’s first team for 2 years and most improved. Katie
played three years on a National team at Dayton Juniors Volleyball
Club where her teams qualified for nationals two years in a row. Her
last two years of Club, she switched over to Cincy Classics where
she helped her Red team qualify for USAV Junior Olympic
Championships twice and finished 9th in the tournament’s Open
division at Nationals. She went on to sign with the University of
Findlay Oilers where she played Division II volleyball for a year.
Currently, Katie is a student at the Ohio State University studying
Middle Childhood Education. She continues to play competitive
indoor and sand volleyball. She was a coach for the 13 girls’
national team at Dayton Juniors Volleyball Club. She is now the
head coach at Bexley Middle School for the seventh grade girls and
joins Buckeye for the 2011 season.
Amanda McClemens
Coach Amanda coached at St Thomas Aquinas for 4 years (2 years
freshmen, 2 years JV), was the JV coach and Head Interim Coach at
Westerville South for 2 years. She coached a 12 regional team for
Buckeye in 2009. Coach Amanda played collegiately at Malone
University and acheived the top ten for serice aces per set and
serving percentage.
Doug Mangette 12 regional Elite
Coach Doug Mangette is coming back to Kaepa Buckeye Volleyball
Club for his third season. This will be his forth year of coaching at
the club level, as he spent the 2007 season with CCYA. He has also
been coaching at the Middle School level for four years.
Danielle Mangas 16 Spring and Winter
Coach Danielle starting her third season at Buckeye for 2011. She
graduated from Leipsic High School in Ohio, where she was a three
year, starting Varsity letter winner. As Team Leader and Captain her
Senior Year, she led her team to Regionals and received Honorable
Mention District 8, played in the All-Star District 8 game, received
2nd Team Blanchard Valley Conference and 2nd Team Putnam
County League. She played Club for five years…two years with
Stars and Spikes VBC and three years with Findlay Oilers VBC.
Danielle played two years of at Division II Columbus State. She is
currently a Senior at The Ohio State University where she is
majoring in Mild/Moderate Special Education and a Coaching
Education minor. She is very excited for this upcoming season and
looks forward to getting to know each athlete while helping them
strengthen their skills and knowledge for the game of volleyball.
Samantha Melchor
This will be Coach Samantha’s first year as a coach for Buckeye.
She was a Buckeye player for three of her four club years while
attending Dublin Scioto High School where she was a Varsity setter
and outside hitter for two years. While attending college, Samantha
played for Bowling Green State University’s club team as a setter.
She started her coaching career as a volunteer coach for Dublin
Scioto’s Varsity Boys team. She went on to coach a 13 girls club
team for Glass City Athletics and recently became the Olentangy
Liberty’s JV Boy’s volleyball coach. This past year her team
was 11-3. Samantha believes in having a positive and intense
attitude towards the game. She values maximum effort and looks
forward to the upcoming season.
Cearah Miller 12 Regional Elite, 13 Regional, 14 Winter
Coach Cearah attended Jonathan Alder High School where she
played on the Varsity Volleyball team. She was named to the All
County team and won the
H.E.A.R.T award for two years. She volunteered and assisted at the
Jonathan Alder Kids’ Camps and Open Gyms.
Cearah currently attends Columbus State Community College and
plays on their Division II Volleyball team. We’re glad to welcome her
to our staff this year.
Jenny Muhlenkamp 14 Regional Elite
Coach Jenny is entering her 3rd year with Kaepa Buckeye Volleyball
Club. This is her 8th year coaching club ball. Previously, she
coached at Premier Volleyball Academy. She has coached girls of all
ages, 12 through 18. Her school coaching experience includes
Middle School and High School teams at Bowling Green Junior High,
Dublin Grizzell Middle School and Hilliard Darby High School. She
believes that hard work pays off ...what you achieve in games is the
result of the effort you put in at practice.
Brenden Pence 16 American, 17 Winter
Coach Pence, beginning his third year with Buckeye, started his
volleyball career as a sophomore at Beavercreek High School, near
Dayton. As a three year varsity letter winner, he had many
achievements; Two year captain, All area Second Team and MVP his
junior year with a team that placed 15th Nationally, All Region First
Team, All State Honors and a scholarship for leadership in a varsity
sport in his Senior Year. During that time he also played Club
volleyball with Dayton Juniors/Air City 17-1's and 18-1's and attended
camps a the University of Cincinnati, Ball State University and Ohio
State University.
Currently, Brenden is obtaining his teaching licensure from Ashland
in middle school child education Math and Social Studies. He
continues to play competitive indoor volleyball with USAV. He plays
and coaches highly competitive sand volleyball as well, and finished
7th in the AVP Young Guns tournament at Bradford Beach in
Milwaukee. As a club and high school certified coach, he has
helped both men's and women's volleyball at Bearvercreek with
tryouts, conditioning and practices from the freshman through
varsity level. He was an assistant boys varsity coach at Westerville
Central. His 15 Regional Elite team at Buckeye Finished third
overall in the OVR Region in 2010. He has coached at Bexley and
does year round personal and group training and lessons, with a
focus on hitting and offense. He also has a passion for teaching
defense. As a player who has played every position competitively,
he will bring his knowledge and passion for the game to every
practice.
Brittany Peiffer 14 Regional Elite
Coach Brittany has been playing volleyball since 6th grade. In
junior high she started playing Club ball for Black Swamp Volleyball
Club in Tiffin, Ohio. She attended Columbian High School and
played volleyball all four years. In her Junior year, she was the
Varsity starting setter. In her Senior year, she played all the way
around and led her team to a League championship, a Sectional
championship, a District championship and into the regional semi-
finals which was a first for her school’s program. As a repeat
scholar athlete, in her Senior year she received All-League and All-
District honors and also the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.
Most recently, Brittany coached at Black Swamp Volleyball Club for
Tiffin’s Junior High teams. This summer she coached for Columbian
High Schools Junior Varsity and coached them in several matches
this season until she came to Columbus to attend school. We look
forward to having her on our staff.
Emily Post 14 Regional, 14 Winter
This will be Coach Emily’s first season with Buckeye Volleyball Club.
She began her volleyball career in the 6th grade, playing for Club
Atlantis. Continuing on to play for her middle school team, she then
joined Grand Lake Volleyball Club. Emily became a three year
Varsity letter winner with her St. Henry High School team where she
was voted the team MVP. She also received First Team All MAC
Conference and District 8 Player of the Year awards.
Currently, Emily is in her Sophomore year at Ohio Dominican
University where she is playing volleyball at the Division II level in
the GLIAC conference. She plays the middle blocker/hitter
position. Majoring in Exercise Science with the intention of earning
a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, she is excited to be
able to fulfill her dream of coaching this year.
Monica Strothers 15 Regional
This will be Coach Monica’s first year with Buckeye Volleyball Club.
She is a 2005 graduate of Fairbanks High School where she helped
her varsity team go undefeated in their league. As team captain,
some of the awards she collected were MVP, Most Aces, Best
Offensive and Most Improved Player. She was also recognized on
the league and district levels.
Monica has been coaching at Fairbanks Middle School and High
School for five of the past seven seasons. She has enjoyed helping
her players win league honors and prepare for college. She credits
her personal three years as a club player with helping her excel as
both a player and a coach.
Rob Terrill 14 American
Coach Rob is in his 24th year of coaching volleyball. During that
time he has coached 18 years at the high school level which
includes time at Ridgemont HS, Elgin HS and now Highland HS,
including this fall 2011. While at Elgin ('95-'04) he was part of teams
that appeared in 4 state tournaments and 6 regional appearances.
This is his 10th consecutive year coaching club volleyball and 6th
year at Buckeye. He has been the Club Director for his own club Set
to Kill, and has coached 10's through 16's, including 13 Elite last
year in which they finished the season #1 out of 172 teams in the
Ohio Valley Region.
Lindsey Dorsten 17 Regional, 17 Winter
This will be Coach Lindsey’s second year with Buckeye Volleyball
Club. She attended St. Henry Middle School and High School where
she played 6 years of volleyball as an outside hitter. During high
school, her team was honored with MAC championships all four
years, 2004 Div. IV State runner-up in her Junior year and 2005 State
Champs her Senior year. During these years, she also played club
ball with Atlantis Volleyball Club. After high school, Lindsey went on
to play club volleyball for Ohio State University. She credits her
successful volleyball career to great coaches teaching the team the
right fundamentals at an early age and continually pushing the team
to be their best at each level. She looks forward to extending what
she has learned to others and getting each player to be their best.
Julie Toth 18 Regional Elite
Coach Julie is from Stockton, California where she played at Lincoln
High School (2nd in state, 1999) and with Delta Valley Volleyball
Club. She then competed at San Joaquin Delta College as a middle
blocker and opposite hitter, finishing 3rd and 2nd in the State
Championships her freshman and sophomore years, respectively.
After completing training for the Army National Guard as a medic,
Julie went to New Mexico Highlands University, a Division II
university, and started her senior year as team captain. Julie is now
a student in the Sport and Exercise Studies department and its
completing her internship with the Cougar Volleyball Team as an
assistant Coach. She hopes to continue coaching as a career and
looks forward to a great season!
Danielle Turner 13 Regional
Stephanie Waldeck 13 Regional
Coach Stephanie is new to Buckeye’s coaching staff this year. She
played volleyball in middle school and at Dublin Coffman High
School. She also played three years of club ball, one of which was
with us at Buckeye Volleyball Club.
Stephanie attended Miami University where she played on the
Intramural Volleyball League. She continues to play in a co-ed adult
league.
Most recently, Stephanie coached the 7th grade volleyball team at
Worthingway Middle School in Worthington this past season. We
look forward to having her
join us for a great year.
Daryl Ward 14 Regional Elite
Coach Daryl Ward enters his sixth year of coaching for Kaepa
Buckeye Volleyball Club. With Buckeye he has coached a 13,14, and
15 Regional Team, moving up to a 16 Regional Elite lst year and to
17 Regional Elite in 2008. He has coached both adult and high
school level teams for over 26 years. Just some of his
accomplishments include starting and running a winter high school
league with 6 teams, running the Eastside Volleyball adult Power Co-
Ed Volleyball team in Columbus Open Power summer league,
coaching standard co-ed and power co-ed adult volleyball, coaching
a team in the corporate challenge organizing and instructing both
adult and youth volleyball for Reynoldsburg parks and rec, and
coaching a winter girls HS league to allow players to play between
varsity and club season.
Travis Weitthoff 16 Regional Elite, 12 Winter
Coach Travis joined our staff at Buckeye Volleyball Club this
Summer/Fall and coached several clinics, leagues and lessons. We
are happy to have him continuing on to start his first full club
season with us this year. Travis was a member of the Kettering
Fairmont Volleyball team where he played for four years. He holds
some prestigious setting records including Most Assists in a Match,
Season and Career. He earned Second Team All GWOC and was
Scholar Athlete his senior year. He continued playing club
volleyball for Ohio University where he was club president his
junior and senior year. During his sophomore year, his team tied for
5th place at Nationals in Kansas City, MO. Travis recently graduated
with a Finance degree and he continues to play competitive sand
and indoor volleyball every chance he gets.
In 2010, Travis was Head 8th Grade Coach for Alexander Middle
School and assisted with the high school varsity team, helping the
Spartans become District Champions. He also assisted with the
Varsity Ohio University Women’s Team where they went on to win a
MAC championship in 2011. Last season, Travis was head coach of
the U-17 ALETA club team. He brings with him a lot of energy,
knowledge and passion for this sport.
Walt Williams 15 Regional and Winter , 13 Regional and Winter
Coach Williams will be joining Buckeye for the 2010 season. Walter
has fifteen years of experience playing and coaching at the adult
level. He was the Varsity Head Coach for Harvest Prep in 2006. He
coached for Westland Volleyball Club in 2009. He loves to teach but
remains a student of the game.
Tara Winner 14 Regional, 14 Winter
Buckeye Volleyball Club welcomes Coach Tara to her first year with
us. She is a 2010 graduate of Versailles High School where she
played on the Varsity volleyball team for three years. She made
First Team All MAC, First Team All District Nine, and Division III All
Ohio Honorable Mention in 2009. She played club volleyball for five
years with Team Atlantis. Tara is currently in her second year at
Ohio Dominican University, where she is a Sophomore co-captain
on the volleyball team.
Jaclynn Yocum 18 Regional Elite
Coach Jaclynn is joining Buckeye after completing her education at
Coastal Carolina University, where she played Div I volleyball. She
played club volleyball for eight years; four of those with Buckeye at
the National level. Her playing experience also includes four years
of varsity level ball at Jonathan Alder High School, where she
received 1st Team All-State honors, 2 years 1st Team All-District, 3
years All County, including All County and All District Player of the
Year, Division III. Jaclynn is excited to return to her home club and
share her experience and passion for the game at the coaching
level.
Currently Coach Jaclynn is the Head Volleyball Coach at Columbus
State. Last season she coach the Buckeye 17 Regional Elite team
and placed 1st in over all rankings in the Ohio Valley Region out of
128 teams in the 17 division.
Jill Yocum 13 Regional Elite, 17 American
Coach Jill Yocum returns for her 9th year of coaching with Kaepa
Buckeye Volleyball Club. Her Fifteen years of Club coaching include
a first place regional rankings. Coach Jill's 25 years of coaching
experience involve 21 years at the High School level with numerous
accomplishments. 7 district titles, 18 league titles, league coach of
the year 11 years, district coach of the year 5 years, Ohio all star
coach, Ohio state coach of the year, and a HS coaching record of
296 wins and 80 losses. Coaching for one year at Malone College,
her W/L stats were 21-12. Jill has plentiful experience with clinics
and camps including 6 years of Ohio elite camp staff, attending
Sports Performance coaches' clinics and the Gold Medal Olympic
coaches clinic in 2006.
Currently Coach Jill has been the Assistant Coach for Columbus
State since 2008. In 2009 Columbus State was the 1st Ohio College
to be Ranked Number one.
Kristen Yates
Coach Kristen Yates has been a coach with Buckeye Volleyball Club
since 1998. She began her career at McCord Middle School and
was a three year varsity letter winner at Worthington Kilbourne High
School, winning defensive player of the year. She also played four
years of club ball. Going on to play at Columbus State as a key
defensive player, she helped take her team to NJCAA Div. III
Nationals in Minnesota. As one of our original coaches, Kristen has
coached all age groups, most at the National level. Teams she
coached at 14-17 finished in the Regional Bold bracket each year.
She also coached them at AAU's in Orlando, Florida. Almost all of
those girls on that team went on to successful college careers.
You'll also see her at tryouts, as she helps us coordinate 'behind
the scenes' responsibilities.
Lauren Yates 15 Regional Elite
Coach Lauren Yates coached for Kaepa Buckeye Volleyball Club in
2007 as a 15 National coach and continues this year coaching a 14
regional Elite/American team. Coach Lauren will be entering her 5th
year as a coach for Buckeye. She was on our very first team in 1998
as a 13 and continued for the next five years at 14's thru 18's at the
National Level.
She started playing club ball at eleven years old. She played at
McCord Middle School and was a four year Varsity letter winner at
Worthington Kilbourne High School where she won 2nd Team All
District and 1st Team all OCC honors. Lauren went on to play for
two years at Columbus State. A key all around player, she helped
take the Cougars to NJCAA Div III Nationals in Minnesota both years
making the All-Tournament Team in her sophomore year. As a
sophomore she also won NJCAA Div III Player of the Week, 1st Team
All-District and 1st Team All-American.
